Overview

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Assistive and Media Technology Specialist at Moraine Park Technical College Fond du Lac Campus.  The Assistive and Media Technology Specialist provides technical assistance, training and resource information to students with approved accommodations, faculty, and staff. Assists current and prospective students with disabilities in implementing and utilizing mandated accommodations related to assistive and media technology and ensuring accessibility to all College functions. Conducts research to understand and recommend new assistive technology as well as collaborates with College staff to ensure equal access to media and assistive technology. 

 

This position is funded by a Perkins Student Success grant and Wisconsin Technical College System Completion grant through June 30, 2021 and anticipated annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

1. Researches assistive and media technology for use by students with disabilities, faculty, and staff. 2. Develop and provide training for students with disabilities in the use of computers and assistive technology to ensure understanding and accessibility of approved accommodations. Monitors students’ progress and evaluates effectiveness of various assistive technology.3. Provide technical assistance, consultation and training on the use of assistive technology to Disability Resources staff, Faculty and other College personnel. Monitors trainees to measure progress and to evaluate the effectiveness of training. 4. Work cooperatively with Accommodations Specialists, Disability Resource Specialists, Faculty and Information technology Specialists to support the assistive technology needs and promote academic success and independence of students with disabilities.5. Maintain communication regarding students’ assistive technology progress and needs for modifications with Accommodations Specialists, Disability Resource Specialists, Faculty, and community agencies. 6. Process and maintain appropriate documentation in case files to ensure compliance with federal/state mandates and grant project requirements. Complete all required reports and requests for student tracking information.7. Participate in appropriate related programming and outreach activities that impact students with disabilities; particularly special orientation programs, programs for parents of students with disabilities and interested others, including community groups, agencies, schools and individuals.8. Support the delivery of technology-based classroom accommodations. Integrate these accommodations with traditional classrooms, blended/online courses, distance learning, and instructional technology in support of initiatives related to Universal Design. 9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the latest in web accessibility, web development, e-book accessibility, and other areas of accessible media technology in support of the MPTC College-Wide Accessibility Policy.10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Instructional Design or a related field. Information Accessibility Design and Policy, Accessibility and Inclusive Design or a related certification recommended. Master’s Degree in Assistive Technology/Accessible Design or related preferred. 2. Four years of experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting or individuals in an employment setting. Prior experience working with assistive technology preferred. 3. Basic understanding of regulations supporting accommodations and equal access of persons with disabilities in higher education.4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community partners.5. Demonstrated knowledge of issues and technology used in higher education setting, including course management systems (LMS), electronic textbooks, text-to-speech/speech-to-text software, media captioning, web accessibility and any other accessibility related solutions. 6. Working knowledge of disabilities and teaching methodology supportive of student success.7. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments.8. Strong written and verbal communications skills including the ability to establish effective working relationships and communicate with all levels of staff, students, and the general public.9. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.10. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
