Welder I -Fs Utility Services

Regular Full-time, Pay Range MR04

This position exists to weld as needed in the construction, installation, modification, and repair of the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s plumbing, sewer, storm sewer, gas, steam infrastructure facilities, hand rails, platforms, other welding as required and to insure the continued safe and reliable distribution and discharge of utility pipe lines to the Campus The Welder performs and coordinates welding activities using heliarc, shielded metal arc, and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, welding on various materials including high pressure steam line work, and general campus repairs. Will also assist other shops and departments as directed, on campus, in the performance and completion of various projects as needed to ensure the highest possible level of customer satisfaction.



Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must have, and maintain, a valid State of Tennessee Driver’s License.
The applicant shall be certified or have the ability, training and experience to become certified for specific operations. 
Three (3) years or more in welding and three (3) years in pipe welding or equivalent combination of relevant education, training and/or experience.
The applicant must be computer literate or able to learn the computer skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
Must be able to weld metal objects as required to construct and maintain utility systems and their components. This includes all type metals including but not limited to; Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Pipe, Tube, Plate, and Castings. Must be able to perform this function using various type welding technologies including but not limited to; Heli-arc, shielded metal-arc, plasma-arc, stick electrode and oxy-acetylene, must be literate and have the ability to communicate. Applicant must have the mechanical ability needed to construct various assemblies and to properly rig for safely moving or lifting these assemblies or components as required.
Applicant must be able to work with supervision and work well with others, must demonstrate good attendance habits, be dependable, and be willing to work flexible schedules as necessary; including being on call 24/7 status.  Must become familiar with and observe all safety requirements, university work rules and state and federal regulations.
