Sr. Plumbing & Heating Specialist I - Fs Utility Services

Regular Ful-time, Pay Range MR08

This position will assist the Plumbing Foreman in the performance of their duties. The senior shall assist the foreman in the layout, construction, installation, modification, maintenance and repair of the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s plumbing, sewer, storm sewer, gas, steam infrastructure facilities, and to insure the continued safe and reliable distribution and discharge of utility pipe line to the campus. Senior employees shall learn the duties and fill in during the absence of a foreman. They shall demonstrate a command of campus piping systems and mentor crew members A senior should possess the ability to receive and give instructions. To lead crews in work assignments as directed. They are also to assist, as directed, other shops and departments on campus in the performance and completion of various projects as needed to ensure the highest possible level of customer satisfaction. 



Qualifications
Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Valid TN Driver’s License 
High school education; trade school or journeyman training preferred.
Six years of experience or trade school and experience (Experience may substitute for trade school education on a year for year basis)
Applicant must exhibit leadership qualities, be literate, have the ability to read and write, keep time records, assign work, read blueprints and take off and order material as required. Applicant must possess basic computer skills. 


Technical knowledge and understanding of plumbing distribution systems and equipment, controls, piping, equipment and related areas of work. It requires the ability to organize, prioritize and perform under extreme pressure in both a public contact and internal departmental capacity. Ability to lead a group of co-workers in the performance of their duties in a highly technical and sometimes hazardous and hectic environment. Ability to solve technical problems in the installation and repair of plumbing and piping systems and components and skills in understanding and use of all plumbing equipment and power tools. Must be able to interact with others in an efficient and responsible manner. Ability to read blueprints and sketches and determine materials and resources needed.


Must have knowledge of type and size of pipes needed for repair and maintenance of systems, ability to cut threads and operate machinery as required by the trade, to join pipe by all means common to the plumbing trade including but not limited to threaded, caulked, welded, brazed, fused or cemented joints. Must be in good physical condition and have the ability to work long hours or overtime as required.
