Description:

The Department of Fine Arts at Santa Fe College is seeking a nine (9) month Assistant Professor of Art to promote and encourage student success through quality instruction beginning Fall 2021.The program is oriented toward a large number of sections of Art Appreciation, Art studio foundations courses in design, (2D and/or 3D) and Sculpture. This department functions to both fulfill the general education requirement and meet the needs of the Art transfer students at SF.

Under supervision of the Fine Arts Department Chair, the Assistant Professor of Art will develop, prepare, and teach courses that may include general education. Full-time faculty have a nine (9) month contract based on teaching 15 credit hours in the Fall and 15 credit hours in the Spring; teaching opportunities beyond contractual obligations, including during the summer, may be available for additional compensation based upon departmental need.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in classroom and/or real-world settings to promote student success within a community college environment.

  • Collaborate with other faculty to evaluate, revise, and develop program curriculum and pedagogical methods that cultivate student learning and enhance the mastery of course content.

  • Assist in planning and writing emerging technology curriculum and provide instruction to promote successful student preparation in a 2-year college Art Program.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, local educators and other school professionals to create and promote joint outreach, as well as develop educational partnerships and activities.

  • Support and promote the mission of the department and college which centers on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, faculty scholarship, professional development, and service.

  • Be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, college committee work, and Gallery Board Membership.

  • Assist with the implementation of college policies, objectives and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.

  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance and achievement of learning outcomes.

  • Strictly honor student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations and college rules.

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

Reports to: Chair, Fine Arts Department

Qualifications:

Required: Master’s degree in Art or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art. Prior College or university level teaching experience. Extensive professional knowledge of teaching a combination of Art Appreciation with Art foundation courses in Drawing and/or 2D and 3D Design.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
