Compensation: Salary is $40,336.58. Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

Description:

Santa Fe College is seeking an Academic Coach for its Student Support Services (SSS) program. Student Support Services is one of the Federal TRIO programs funded by through the U.S. Department of Education designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. SF’s SSS program is designed to identify, select, enroll, retain, serve, and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities. The program provides support services that will help participants progress academically throughout college and graduate, or graduate and transfer, within four years.

The Academic Coach is responsible for identifying and selecting program participants with the project coordinator. The successful candidate is responsible for facilitating academic guidance, tutoring, financial literacy, transfer assistance, instruction in study skills, and career development. This position is grant-funded by the Department of Education.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Collaborate with coordinator to identify, recruit, select eligible participants.

  • Manage a caseload of SSS Scholars while tracking, monitoring and maintaining accurate physical and electronic records of student academic progress.

  • Proactively meet with program participants, at least, three times per term to support persistence, retention and degree completion.

  • Facilitate academic guidance, financial assistance and literacy, career development, transfer pathways, tutoring, and study skills development for program participants.

  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of academic subject matter tutors, coordinate tutoring schedules/sessions with tutors/participants and supervise tutors.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with SF, UF, and community constituents to conduct appropriate referrals for students, as needed.

  • Work closely with SSS staff and other partners across campus such as the Disabilities Resources Center, Counseling Center, Admissions, Financial Aid Office, and other, to effectively and holistically serve SSS Scholars.

  • Respond to at-risk reporting with appropriate student outreach, referral, and follow-up.

  • Facilitate supplemental instruction, arrange transfer and cultural visits, and develop resources for SSS Scholars.

  • Partner with the coordinator to conduct research necessary for project evaluation, assisting in the evaluation process to include annual report, consultant visits and grant submission.

  • Provide outreach to prospective students through class presentations, college events, and other initiatives. Some initiatives might include night and/or weekend commitments.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field.

  • Maintain updated knowledge of Santa Fe College, Dept. of Education, and program related information. (FAFSA, financial aid, registration process, college calendars, SSS Grant, state and national TRIO associations)

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Coordinator, Student Support Services

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, guidance psychology, social work, or similar discipline. Candidates must have at least (2) two years of experience in implementing SSS or similar programs that serve underrepresented groups, preferably low-income, disabled, and/or first-generation students. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to participate in the identification and selection of program participants.

Additional Requirements: The successful candidate must have a valid Florida Driver License and be authorized to drive for the college (Driving Requirements). The ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.A criminal background check will be conducted.
