Department Description:

The School of Leadership and Education Sciences-Department of Learning and Teaching at the University of San Diego seeks to hire a dynamic, energetic, and skilled candidate for the Postdoctoral Faculty Program who has a commitment to advance the perspectives of ethnic minority students through teaching opportunities, research/creative work, and mentoring in order to support faculty from U.S. communities that are underrepresented in academia. We are committed to the development of scholars who empower students through Culturally Relevant Pedagogies with an Anti-Racism, Social Justice, Equity, Inclusion, and Global perspective.

Detailed Description:

The two-year postdoctoral appointment will begin in Fall 2021. The postdoctoral candidate will have an opportunity to teach in Department of Learning and Teaching programs based on their expertise. Priority will be given to candidates that have a degree and experience in the following teaching, research and service areas/disciplines:

Teaching in one or more of these areas

  • Literacy-K-8th Grade
  • Cognition, identity, learning and learning sciences

It is expected that the postdoctoral candidate has an active Scholarship/Research agenda in one of the above areas, as well as a Service agenda in support of students of color and underrepresented communities.

The purpose of the Diversity Postdoctoral Faculty Program is to mentor faculty in teaching and research excellence in the context of a Catholic institution with both undergraduate and graduate degree programs and to cultivate inclusive communities within departments at the University. A faculty member in the Department will be assigned as the mentor to support the Postdoctoral faculty throughout the two years. USD is poised to serve as a resource for faculty who are interested in pursuing an academic career that follows a teacher/scholar model.

The Diversity Postdoctoral faculty position is for two years. Postdoctoral faculty teach courses in their area of expertise, continue their research trajectory, work closely with faculty mentors in their department, and participate in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences’ faculty development programs.

Job Requirements:

Degree: The Postdoctoral Faculty Program is designed for early career scholars. Candidates must have completed the PhD or other terminal degree before the starting date of September 2021, but not prior to September 2017. Priority will be given to candidates who have not yet held a tenure-track faculty position.
