Advertised Job Summary:

The Law Enforcement Officer I (Class 3) provides security and protection for the National Advocacy Center (NAC). They are Class 3 certified police officers in accordance with SC Code of Laws, and are empowered with special duties. They assist Class 1 certified police officers in providing a safe and peaceful environment for all while ensuring safe and reliable access to the University. They enforce state laws and National Advocacy Center rules/regulations.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

High school diploma. Must be 21 years of age, be physically qualified and have no criminal record. Must pass a background investigation and complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy with certification as Class 3-SLE.

Preferred Qualifications:

One year experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field. Current certification by SCCJA as Class 3 officer.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of proper law enforcement officer behavior and role. Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedures. Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence. Knowledge of the Constitutionally mandated rights of both suspects and law enforcement personnel. Knowledge of South Carolina law, relevant case law, and policies of the University. Ability to exercise sound judgement within an established set of core departmental values. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies. Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment.
