The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign has an opening for a Case Practice Reviewer with the School of Social Work. The Case Practice Reviewer processes an intensive review of child welfare cases, utilizing file review and extensive interview component in order to understand the current outcomes experienced by the child and family, and to relate them to the current system practice observed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with another reviewer or independently, read the SACWIS case documentation electronically and the hard file documents as needed. Interviews are then conducted of identified stakeholders within the case. Responsible for organizing the in-person or virtual interviews with families, caseworkers, case supervisors, and stakeholders that the Case Practice Reviewer identifies from reviewing the electronic case file. Assist and support the paired reviewer in understanding the case practice review processes and methodology.
Utilize all the information gathered, collaborate and work to reach an agreement on the case ratings and narratives. Enter data from the Case Practice Review ratings into an established database at the conclusion of each review.
Suggest strengths and needs of each case. This information is discussed during the Case Practice Review staffing held with the supervisor and caseworker of the case. Using a standardized format, prepare and give an oral report to the supervisor and caseworker of the case.
Complete a written report and ratings of the Case Practice Review utilizing a standard format.
Attend and participate in each Case Practice Review case staffing. Provide an oral and written report during the Case Practice Review staffing through discussion of case findings, answers questions and reports on trends identified. Author professional reports synthesize large amounts of information from a variety of sources into short, concise, accurate narratives.
Statewide travel is required and flexibility in conducting evening interviews extended stays as needed. *Due to COVID19 reviews have been virtual but anticipate in future for in person.
Other related duties as assigned could include writing ad hoc reports and presenting findings upon request at leadership meetings, supervisory forums, stakeholder meetings, and continuous quality improvement meetings.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field. At least three years of work experience in the child welfare field.
Understanding and knowledge of Illinois' child welfare system and the ability to apply them to both micro-level and systemic foster care issues i.e., DCFS Rules and Procedures, performance standards, court processes. etc., A thorough knowledge of the new practice model and an ability to relate it to feedback provided is essential. Understanding of program monitoring and quality improvement processes. Strong oral communication skills (must be able to speak/present high-level and complicated data and information to small, medium, and large audiences, consisting of a diverse group of professionals, such as caseworkers and the DCFS Director). Experience facilitating large groups of child welfare professionals (direct staff and quality improvement staff) to evaluate and understand detailed data sets, identify areas in need of improvement, develop improvement activities and implementation steps, and practice ongoing monitoring of the activities in order to adjust as needed. Candidate must have experience and comfort in conducting in-person interviews with all levels of client stakeholders, including interviews with children, adolescents, young adults, and child welfare staff. Must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently working knowledge of research concepts, data analysis, and reporting must be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Office products (Excel specifically). Knowledge of SPSS or SAS a plus. Proficient in interviewing, with excellent writing skills and ability to verbally present findings to small and large groups. Fluency In a second language is a plus.
Salary and Appointment Information:
This is a full-time (100%), twelve-month non-tenure track academic professional position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The proposed start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
