Position Summary:

Applications are invited for an outstanding Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Department of City and Regional Planning working under the direction of Prof. Noreen McDonald at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will conduct research on transportation planning and policy. Current funded projects focus on how emerging mobility options have or will change travel behavior. The Post-Doc Research Associate will focus on impacts around healthcare access, paratransit services, and urban freight. We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar with expertise in one or more of the following areas: designing and analyzing stated preference surveys, conducting interviews and surveys, and analyzing GPS trace/cellphone data. The Post-Doc Research Associate will be expected to significantly contribute to research design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript development, and project management of research staff including doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students. Several opportunities to be involved in peer-reviewed journal publications are anticipated. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to engage with intellectual opportunities across UNC. Educational Requirements: The candidate must hold or be about to receive a PhD in city and regional planning, geography, engineering, computer science, statistics, public policy, public affairs, or related discipline.

Qualifications and Experience:

Successful candidates will also demonstrate strong training in methods and research design. Experience with big data or novel data science applications, e.g. text mining, is a plus.
