Overview

Princeton University is seeking a Visual Arts Technical Support Associate to join its technology support team in the Office of Information Technology (OIT). In this role, you will partner with the Visual Arts program and provide support for the technology in both the Visual Arts Digital Lab and in department classrooms. In the Visual Arts Digital Lab, responsibilities will include supporting students, faculty, and staff in the use of specialized digital photography and film equipment, as well as helping with the use of lab computer technology and software. In support of the lab, you will also set up and maintain lab and classroom computer and printer hardware.

 

In addition to the responsibilities in the Visual Arts Digital Lab, you will support film and photo classes and the inventory of equipment for these classes, help coordinate the equipment lending program, arrange for software tutorial workshops, and provide software tutorials to Visual Arts students. A successful candidate will be proactive in the care, maintenance and repair of technology and equipment, as well as anticipate lab needs for a growing Visual Arts program.

Responsibilities

Digital photography and film equipment support

  • Provide specialized technical support for digital photography and film equipment and demonstrate functionality, proper connectivity, and best practices
  • Set up and configure photography, sound, and film equipment in classrooms per faculty requests
  • Provide IT and AV support to visiting artists
  • Maintain and oversee the Visual Arts equipment room and classroom supplies

Visual Arts Digital Lab support and loaner program coordination

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Visual Arts Digital Lab during open hours
  • Make recommendations to students on best visual arts hardware/software for projects
  • Provide general support and user training for common tools and applications
  • Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of the collection of software available on Visual Arts computers
  • Manage an inventory of more than 500 items in the ServiceNow service management inventory and reservation system
  • Fulfill and schedule loans requested through the Visual Arts online reservation form
  • Inspect and test all loaner equipment is functioning properly
  • Review and respond to emails, manage incidents, and sending late notices for equipment due date, and other loaner form administrative responsibilities

Classroom and lab technology support and maintenance

  • Onboard and set up new and repurposed computers, including the installation of University applications, such as Kace, Crashplan, Microsoft Office, Crowdstrike, Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid, DragonFrame, and Rhino
  • Troubleshoot software issues, clean malware, and patch and update OS and firmware
  • Maintain lab printers and computers to ensure proper operation
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all computer lab assets and supplies
Qualifications
  • Proficient with Mac OS; ability to manage and maintain systems efficiently
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Prior experience supporting desktop computers, printers, and scanners
  • Ability to instruct in the use of Epson scanning and printing processes, Adobe Creative Cloud, including After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere
  • Ability to identify various photography, sound, and film equipment and tools
  • Ability to work flexible shifts at different times of year. This will require afternoon/evening shifts as late as 10PM.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license
