Department Summary:

The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) exists to support and further the mission of the University by developing, delivering, and advocating for services and programs that unite and support students’ academic and life pursuits. DSA is one of the largest divisions at the University of North Texas and includes Housing and Residence Life, Recreational Sports, Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Student Health & Wellness, Counseling & Testing, Student Activities, Greek Life, Auxiliary Services, Dining, Center for Leadership & Service, Sustainability, Center for Leadership & Service, Substance Abuse Resource Center, Veteran Services, TRiO, and more.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for designing, writing, and editing marketing materials consistent with the marketing and communication strategy for the Division Duties include developing marketing strategies and plans, writing and edits marketing materials including the website designing marketing materials and supervising student employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for university audiences.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to coordinate large projects with numerous components over extended periods of time.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to visually inspect print and online copy when self-editing or editing the copy of others including experience in creative editing and fact checking techniques.
• Works effectively within a team and effectively works closely with other staff, faculty, and students toward a common goal.
• Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles.
• Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc.).
• Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate the strategy into modes of communication.
• Ability to supervise and/or coordinate the work of others and responsible for the production of deadline driven high quality product.
• Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist the division, college or unit in aligning strategies for UNT publications (print and digital) with University strategy and guidelines and effectively edit and improve content for readers based on best practices.
• Ability to coordinate large projects with numerous components over extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and five years of experience in writing and/or editing publications and designing; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM

Strategizes, writes, edits, designs, and schedules content for varying media. This may include landing pages and other social media, e-newsletters, press releases, advertising, and others.

Plans and coordinates content for publications, setting editorial, production, and printing schedules; supervises student employees.

Produces and implements concepts through writing, design and social media content to help clarify and improve the image of the Division of Student Affairs.

o:

Produces and implements concepts to help clarify and improve image of the Division

o:

Monitors UNT DSA social media properties, engaging with audience members where appropriate, answering questions, correcting misinformation, or directing them to UNT/DSA resources.

o:

Develops effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

o:

Serves as marketing consultant for department administrators and other key personnel, as assigned.

o:

Develops and executes communication plans in alignment with budget
