JOB GOAL:

This position will work 20 hours a week scheduled between the hours of Monday-Friday 9am-3pm.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

This individual will primarily assist students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder navigate the transition into the college environment. Duties will include creating and delivering activities to increase student’s skills in the areas of academics, personal adaptation, and social relationships. Hours may vary during summer term.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide specialized academic support and skill building related to academic, personal and social skills to students and connect students to college and community resources.
  • Plan and facilitate social events for students enrolled in the ASK program.
  • Consult with prospective students and/or parents at individual appointments, orientations and off campus transition events.
  • Create and deliver awareness training for faculty and staff on the subjects of autism spectrum disorder and Kirkwood’s ASK Program.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of disability-related policies, procedures, and law.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Humans Services or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum disorder or other similar populations.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

    Master’s degree in related field.
