The Department of Education at Flagler College-Tallahassee invites applications for a full-time position as Department Chair at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2021. The Elementary Education program at Flagler College – Tallahassee is known throughout the region for the high quality of teachers it produces. The successful candidate will be a dynamic instructor and leader, and have a strong background in the field of elementary education.

Flagler College-Tallahassee is a degree completion campus that partners with Tallahassee Community College.  In 2020, the two institutions formed a Targeted Articulation Agreement to provide education majors with a high-quality and cost-effective “Gateway to Teaching.”  The College and the Department are dedicated to strengthening this unique partnership and expanding the program to further benefit the surrounding communities.  State approved programs offered on the Tallahassee campus focus exclusively on Elementary Education and Elementary Education/Exceptional Student Education. Both degrees include ESOL and Reading endorsements.

A teaching load of 3 sections (face-to-face, blended, and/or online courses) per semester is expected, which will include the following courses in our elementary education program: General Methods of Instruction, Classroom Management, Elementary Methods of Science and/or Elementary Methods of Social Studies. Additional responsibilities include advising, departmental management of faculty/students, course scheduling, program recruitment efforts, and collaboration with other faculty to ensure Florida Department of Education requirements for continued program approval are met.

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, or a related field. ABD will be considered.  Candidate should demonstrate a record of effective teaching in higher education, and possess experience teaching elementary school in the K-6 public setting. Faculty leadership experience is preferred.
