IT Enterprise ApplicationsJob Summary/Basic Function:
The Database Administrator (DBA) reports to the Manager for Database Administration as an integral member of the Database Services team. The successful candidate will have the training and skills necessary to install, configure, and maintain the Lamar University Enterprise Resource Planning application databases and their middleware. The DBA will apply technical knowledge in implementing policies for database security, ensuring high availability, and building technological sustainability. The position will provide database services in support of technical and functional teams as requested and will apply knowledge and experience of current trends and technologies to improve and automate business processes.
•Implement and perform processes/procedures necessary to maintain and safeguard the databases and related systems used within the Ellucian ERP system and all related components, including backup and recovery.
•Implement standards and procedures for database administration tasks and security policies and assist with managing database-level and application-level security and roles.
•Assist with installation, configuration, patching/updating, performance tuning, and backups of ERP databases and application servers.
•Install software, such as Oracle RDBMS, review patches and maintain patching schedule.
•Perform database and application monitoring to ensure databases run at peak performance; troubleshoot performance issues; submit service tickets to vendor support as needed.
•Create, load, and manage databases and database objects needed by the implementation, development, testing, and training teams.
•Respond to, troubleshoot, and repair issues with databases and associated applications including Banner.
•Implement the processes necessary to refresh or otherwise maintain sets of data for testing and development purposes and automate processes when possible.
•Support data loading, migration, conversion, and scheduled job operations.
•Support capacity planning, utilizing monthly storage reports.
•Develop and/or maintain existing documentation.
•Be available to work alternate schedules, as required to support projects and operations. These may include after-hours and weekends. Requires periodic on-call duty.
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated ability to establish congenial work relationships and to communicate effectively within the department workgroup, throughout the university with professional or managerial staff, and with outside vendors. The work requires strong analytical skills, an attention to detail, and a high level of initiative to successfully solve database-related issues. Also required are:
•A degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Information Science, or a related field.
•2 to 4 years of experience as a DBA working within higher education.
•At least 2 years of experience with Oracle Enterprise RDBMS (preferably 1 year of experience with version 19c).
•Experience monitoring Oracle Enterprise Manager targets, alerts and backups.
•Experience with installation and configuration of Tomcat and WebLogic Application Server.
•Experience in maintaining and operating Red Hat Linux 7 or similar enterprise UNIX systems.
•Experience with languages such as SQL, PL/SQL, Pro-C, Java, html, .net, Perl, and UNIX shell scripting.
•Experience with Cloud Technologies from AWS and OCI
•Experience with Oracle technologies, such as Multitenant, RAC ASM, RMAN, DATAPUMP, RAT, HotClone, DataGuard, EM, and In-Memory databases.
