Position Highlights:Chemistry and Biochemistry is a dynamic department that reports to the College of Science and the College of Medicine. We are interested in hiring a Manager, Grants and Contracts to join our department in the Business Office. We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to lead the Research and Grants team in CBC, who can shape the direction of the group. In this role, you will mentor and train direct reports; work closely with the other branches of the Business Office in a leadership role; administer upper-level responsibilities and tasks; and manage workload to optimize opportunities in efficiencies, customer service, and education on partnership roles within the department.
This position will be responsible for providing pre- and post-award research services, including acting as the Fiscal Officer for all grant accounts, therefore conducting all administrative duties, reviews and approvals pertaining to grants and contracts. This position will oversee the grant activity, including supervising the Research and Grants team, providing policy and procedure interpretation and adherence to compliance, addressing grant issues and assisting in creating approaches to an efficient grant process for both pre- and post-award services.

- Provide policy and procedure interpretation for the department faculty, staff and students and prepare specialized internal reports for the unit and agencies.
- Oversee a small group of PI awards for both pre- and post-ward to create and submit UAR’s; develop budget proposals and monitor the resulting awards; assist in the management of the post-award activity, including, but not limited to, sub-award payment authorizations, approve grant related p-card transactions, requisition and billing transaction approvals, position distributions, backstops, close-out procedures, provide monthly financial reports and cost-share, renewals and assist with progress reports.
- Upon award, communicates with faculty, researchers and other personnel regarding terms, conditions and budgets related to ongoing administration of grants and contracts.
- Prepare reports and makes recommendations to senior management about the financial implications of proposed research projects.
- Serve as Financial Officer for all department research and contract awards.
- Oversee award effort certification, annual HERD survey and coordinate the Axiom all funds for the grant related information for COS, COM and a combined all funds report.
- Establish and coordinate appropriate grant expenditure tracking and approval systems and procedures for the department research program; analyze and manage annual funding plans; and monitor actual performance against budget, identify and analyze variations.
- Collaborate with principal investigators and other research staff to ensure compliance with regulations, terms and conditions and sub award/subcontracting issuance and administration.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
