Position Highlights:

This Program Coordinator (Extension Professional I) position in 4-H Youth Development is part of a dynamic team of professionals developing and delivering community outreach programs that provide research-based, objective-based formal and informal education. The position is 100% responsible for 4-H Youth Development. Will work with the Assistant Director, 4-H Youth Development and county-based 4-H professionals to develop the theory of change and educational structure, and then implementation of state level educational events and programs, some events include Arizona 4-H Summit, Arizona 4-H STEM YOUniversity, and J.O.L.T. and Will liaise with 4-H professionals and volunteers who put on state-level contests. This position will be responsible for an in-bound international exchange program management. This will require that the person provide opportunities that support youth from all backgrounds to develop into competent, confident, and caring individuals who contribute to their community and demonstrate the character to be a responsible citizen. Will provide supervision for AmeriCorps and undergraduate work-study students as they are available. Will be responsible for supporting grant writing and implementation as well as implementing evaluation efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities:

A. Program Planning and Development
1. In cooperation with the Assistant Director- 4-H Youth Development, county-based 4-H professionals, community groups, local leaders, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals develops an annual Plan of Work.
2. Implement and support increasing program quality for state level educational events.
3. In-Bound and Outbound International Exchange Youth Program Manager. Liaise with States’ 4-H staff. Recruit, screen, and select host-families and support in-bound youth and host families.
4. Serve as Liaison and State Office Contact for all State Level Events and Contests
5. Special Projects as assigned.

B. Program Implementation
1. Along with 4-H staff, builds and conducts creative programming and utilizes new technology that may include problem solving research, to address priority needs of the target audiences.
2. Prepares educational material, evaluation instruments, teaching materials and publicity information in support of the position’s specific projects.
3. Promotes interaction and cooperation among various 4-H, University, and stakeholder groups.
4. Disseminates educational materials through workshops, websites, newsletters and other mass media methods, use of volunteers, and other methods.
5. Provides for recruitment, training and recognition of volunteers and assists them in the conduct of educational programs, as appropriate.
6. Promotes communication and teamwork between county and state Extension, other faculty and youth professionals.
7. Promotes Cooperative Extension as the outreach arm of the state land-grant university.
8. May support statewide working groups to develop new and creative programming efforts.

C. Program Results
1. Ensures program evaluation is implemented and supports efforts to implement applied youth and volunteer development research.
2. Counsels with County and State 4-H staff and the County Extension Director to evaluate program effectiveness and personal achievements as an Extension faculty member.

D. Professionalism
1. Maintains professional competence through study, participation in professional activities and the application of knowledge and skills on the job.
2. Maintains high ethical and professional standards and is loyal to Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona.
3. Promotes public understanding and support for 4-H, Extension and University programs. 4. Performs as a collegial member of Arizona Cooperative Extension.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Up to 1 year of relevant work experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.

Our Main and Health Sciences campuses are located near downtown Tucson. In addition, we operate a College of Applied Science & Technology in southeastern Arizona, a Biomedical Campus in Phoenix, a Veterinary College north of Tucson, and extension offices in every Arizona county.
