Assistant or Associate Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine

Job Description:

The clinical pathologist will be responsible for all administrative, operational, technical, and clinical, issues related to the medical laboratory of their subspecialty (hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and microbiology). The clinical pathologist works in conjunction with appropriate colleagues and designees and will ensure the laboratory fulfills all articles of compliance, turn-around-times, quality measures, and diagnostic excellence. The clinical pathologist will participate in faculty, fellow, and resident recruitment, teaching, learning, and scholarship. Clinical pathology occurs at UMH (University of Miami Hospital), JMH (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and satellites and SCCC (Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center) and satellites.

Qualifications:

Must be an M.D or D.O. who is Board Certified or Board eligible and fellowship trained in Clinical Pathology.

Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida.

List of Responsibilities:

  • Work in coordination with Director of the Laboratory and Director of Quality Assurance

  • Ensure that all delegated responsibilities are performed

  • Be accessible to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation

  • Help ensure that the physical plant is adequate and safe

  • Employ a sufficient number of properly trained people

  • Specify in writing the responsibilities of each technical person in the laboratory

  • Ensure selection of quality test systems relevant to accuracy, precision, verification, and method selection

  • Ensure enrollment, participation, and return of proficiency testing

  • Ensure that quality control and quality assurance programs are established and maintained

  • Ensure that remedial actions are taken and documented

  • Make certain that personnel are trained to ensure accurate results

  • Ensure that an approved procedure manual for the clinical laboratory is available

  • Maintain JCAHO/CAP/CLIA accreditation

  • Participate in the educational curriculum in clinical pathology for residents, fellows, and medical students

  • Participate in utilization of laboratory testing

  • Develop and participate in Diagnostic Management Teams

  • Academically productive with scholarly activities
