General Description
College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Student Services Division. This position will begin August 2021.
College of Sequoias Community College District serves a diverse community of learners and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution. The District provides a wide range of opportunities in transfer, general education, career and technical programs for our students. We are dedicated to recruiting faculty who are committed to helping a diverse population of students achieve their educational goals. Job Duties
Duties include teaching classes within the Student Services Division, such as College Life and Success, Career and Life Planning and Student Success. Classes assigned may include evening classes, online classes, and teaching at any of our locations in Visalia, Hanford, or Tulare.
Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is encouraged. Other responsibilities include holding required office hours, full participation in departmental responsibilities, including the support of program review, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning outcomes, and the willingness to participate in and sustain an atmosphere of respect for diversity and equity campus-wide.
Qualifications
The candidate must meet one of the following criteria. The degree must generally be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent:

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
The Department is looking for evidence of the following:
Teaching Experience/Background/Training
such as, but not limited to
- Successful Community College teaching experience in Counseling/Student Success
- Successful online teaching experience, including Online Teaching Certification
- Knowledgeable of the career development cycle, assessment tools and implementation, career theories/theorists, world of work, decision making, goal setting, and professional/job application tools
- MBTI Certification or Understanding
- Experience with educational and career planning, including the development of education and action plans to support goals with consideration of sociological, psychological and physiological factors related to college/career/lifelong satisfaction
- Comprehensive awareness of the higher educational system, transition to college, educational pathways, academic terms, regulations, polices, processes, and campus resources to support student success
- Knowledgeable of academic and personal strategies, including but not limited to, note taking, study skills, test taking, time management, critical thinking, goal setting, financial literacy, and healthy lifestyle choices, to promote success
- Experience in diversity, equity and inclusive pedagogy
Teaching Methodologies
such as, but not limited to
- Evidence of ability to use a variety of pedagogy with innovative course design to promote student success and a collaborative learning environment through engagement, application, and critical thinking
- Experience with or interest in alternative instructional modes, including distance education/online instruction
- Implementation of effective group and classroom management strategies
Professional Commitment/Development
such as, but not limited to
- Committee work
- Student activities/tutoring/mentoring
- Conference/workshop presentations and/or training development
- Participatory governance
- Development and assessment of outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, implementing practices to support equitable success rates, in addition to campus-wide equity

Organization
College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.
In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.
COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
