School of Medicine IT empowers students, faculty, and staff to advance education, research, and patient care. We deliver personalized and innovative IT services that further the School’s mission of improving the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians. The School of Medicine IT department is comprised of the following teams: Office of the CIO; Academic Technology Services; Application, Web, and Data Services; Client Services and Support; Information Security; Infrastructure and Operations; and the Project Management Office.
Position Description
oThe School of Medicine IT intern assists with team decision-making, day-to-day operations, the development of new processes and procedures, and contributing to delivering the services offered by the department. Highlights of the position include the following opportunities:
CAREER DEVELOPMENT
•Throughout the course of the internship, you will receive informal feedback, coaching, and mentoring to help prepare you for your career
•By working with the School of Medicine IT department, you will receive extensive exposure to various IT-related responsibilities and the opportunity to pursue more in-depth assignments related to your interests
CONSULT
•Coordinate between division directors by:
oContacting executives directly to collect input on departmental change
oSynthesizing feedback into concrete changes in procedure and policy
ANALYZE
•Capture client requirements and meeting minutes in an actionable format to contribute to delivering applications and services
•Utilize prominent industry software such as Tableau, Planview PPM Pro and Projectplace, and ServiceNow to develop reporting and enhance organizational efficiency
ENGAGE
•Present newly developed processes and procedures to School of Medicine IT leadership
•Participate in content creation from a development and editing perspective
•Develop and deliver training material to bring teams up to speed on new procedures and software capabilities
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
The School of Medicine IT department is seeking a capable UNC student that:
-Possesses extensive interpersonal skills as well as analytical technical abilities (problem-solving, research skills, etc.)
-Is self-motivated, eager to contribute and learn, and brings a strong sense of initiative
