Job Description

The UMKC Institute for Human Development, University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (IHD) is an applied research and training center for human services designed to exemplify the University’s goals of engaged scholarship and community partnerships. Its functions include interdisciplinary training, applied research, community program development and information dissemination. The Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC) Nexus, housed at UMKC Institute for Human Development, is designed to support the “intersect of Charting the LifeCourse ideas, collaboration and transformation.” As the definition of “nexus” implies, it is the central place that connects or links groups, things, and ideas together. The CtLC Nexus serves as a research and training center, partnering with people and organizations who are using CtLC as a lens to enhance and innovate existing resources, training, and practices, and/or to develop new promising practices, resources, trainings, or products. It disseminates these innovations, through access to resources and materials, and providing training and technical assistance. The CtLC Nexus provides an infrastructure for stakeholders to engage with a growing network of implementers on the Charting the LifeCourse framework to learn from one another, share stories, and participate in opportunities to build one another’s capacity.

The IHD is seeking a Research Assistant to join the Charting the LifeCourse Nexus. The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting with research and training project activities. Appropriate activities may include data collection, managing and responding to project related communications, organizing products and materials, coordination and processing of training series and events, as well as supporting the engagement of a community of learners.

  • Coordinate the logistics of the Foundational and Skill Building Workshops, such as schedule (liaison between trainers and organization); manage registration; provide technical/logistical support during sessions; ensure contracts are sent/payments are made, etc.
  • Assemble the Ambassador Series from start to finish, including organize the launch to the series; manage registration; update the series throughout its duration; enroll new Ambassadors in community.
  • Ongoing Technical Support for Ambassador Series
  • Manage the communication in the Ambassador Community
  • Organize training videos and resources
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is required. Area of study in social services, communication, education, or similar is preferred.

$40,000-$45,000/year commensurate with experience/qualifications
