Organizational Unit Overview:

It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.

Job Duties :

The purpose of this position is to provide nursing support to the Ambulatory Pediatric Clinics in the Acute Care After Hours Clinic with responsibilities including providing direct patient care, facilitating the flow of clinical activities, and a variety of treatments to the assigned patient population. The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks with some detail, have a general understanding and skill in the application of work procedures. Obtaining accurate vital signs in pediatric patients is a must. Work includes the reinforcement of routine patient teaching and may include participation in the orientation of students and other staff of the unit, procedures, and/or the function of the nursing assistant. All work is performed under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

The person in this position has to have available to work weekdays, weekends, and holiday hours. Hours of clinic operation are from Monday – Sunday, 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm, 365 days/year.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. This position requires registration as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Certification in Basic Life Support is required prior to completion of general orientation. Considerable knowledge of basic medical terminology and human anatomy; ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of complex therapeutic procedures; and ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.

License or Certification required by the Department:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. This position requires registration as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
