General Summary

Responsible for implementing school age educational activities at an assigned location. Coordinate activities that include academic learning experiences, field trips and site-based liaison among program staff, school staff, community partners, students and parents.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain efficient learning environment for a quality educationally-focused after school program.

Set-up, open and close daily after school program site; prepare daily snacks.

Coordinate activities with program teaching staff and act as liaison to regular school staff.

Document and maintain daily attendance, homework activity and other personnel and student records, as necessary, to meet state and federal database management requirements and deadlines.

Coordinate activity flow, time and facility management.

Assist with teaching activities; develop activities that integrate with academic core time.

Participant in curriculum development and integration.

Assist with the application of technology to science and literacy curriculum components.

Interact effectively with students, parents, staff, community partners and University personnel on a daily basis.

Supervise student assistances; mentor and evaluate pre-student teachers.

Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in an educational or youth related field is required, at least 12 hours in child development, child psychology, early childhood education or related course work is required. Teaching certificate is preferred.

Work experience at a K-12 school, especially in an informal or after school setting is preferred.

Must demonstrate a mature attitude in dealing with students, parents, school district staff and community partners.

Evidence of organization, supervisory and interpersonal skills for establishing good relationships with staff, teachers, parents and students.

Must be willing to participate in additional training and workshops as designated by the after school program.

Must be CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification.

This posting is for two full time vacancies that will be based in Ypsilanti Community Schools. One will be at an elementary site and the other will be at the high school.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
