The Department of International Relations and the Department of Environmental Studies & Sciences at Bucknell University invite applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2021-2022 academic year. We seek a teacher-scholar with a Ph.D. degree in International Relations, Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Human Geography, International Political Economy, Sociology, or other relevant disciplines by August 2021. Candidates in the final stages of completing their degree requirements will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in research and undergraduate teaching to a diverse student body. The successful candidate will teach a total of six courses over two semesters. The required modality of teaching will follow university policy, which is yet to be determined for the 2021-2022 academic year.

We seek a candidate whose teaching and research interests are in human security, race, inequality, and the environment. Possible focal areas include but are not limited to: global public health; disaster management; conservation and development; environmental racism; climate justice; food security; and humanitarian assistance and relief. Special consideration will be given to candidates in fields of critical social inquiry who center the study of race and ethnicity in their research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two courses that contribute to the International Relations major—Human Security and Globalization along with two courses that contribute to the Environmental Studies major—Identity, Inequality, and the Environment and Environmental Ethnography. Other course offerings associated with the position could include electives in the candidate's areas of specialization.

We seek a teacher-scholar who has a demonstrated commitment to diversity and high impact educational practices (writing intensive courses, interdisciplinary courses, global learning, etc.) that would appeal to a broad university audience. Finalists for the position will be asked to submit a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness as available, a statement describing any experience, training, or engagement with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and three confidential letters of reference. The Community
Located in central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg features a variety of restaurants, beautiful Victorian homes, the restored art deco Campus Theatre (owned by the University), charming shops and boutiques, and the Barnes & Noble at Bucknell University Bookstore. About 33,000 residents live in the region.
 
The city of Williamsport is about a 30-minute drive from campus, and Penn State University’s main campus is about an hour away, as is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s state capital. Bucknell is about three hours from New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
