Job Summary:

The Director Institutional Effectiveness is responsible for ensuring and demonstrating institutional effectiveness, including institutional accreditation and appropriate program-specific external accreditation across the university.  The position has primary responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, communicating, evaluating, and continuously improving assessment and accreditation processes throughout the university.  

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

  1. Establishes, maintains, and refines institutional assessment and effectiveness processes across the university.
  2. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting expectations and ensures the incorporation of compliance into the planning and evaluation processes of the university.
  3. Oversees preparation of accurate and timely accreditation and compliance documents, particularly those for SACSCOC, NC-SARA, and other regulatory bodies.
  4. Provides proactive communication to the Chancellor, Provost, and other university leaders of any issues of concern related to university assessment and/or accreditation.
  5. Advises university leaders on recommended policy and/or procedural changes needed to support optimal assessment and accreditation processes.
  6. Maintains current knowledge of expectations of SACSCOC, NC-SARA, and other higher education regulatory bodies.
  7. Demonstrates proactive, collaborative, and effective leadership to produce desired outcomes.
  8. Develops, facilitates, and oversees university structures and processes that contribute to successful institutional assessment and accreditation outcomes.
  9. Ensures comprehensive assessment and accreditation training programs are provided for faculty and staff members.
  10. Uses data to drive and inform decisions as well as organizational performance improvement and outcomes effectively. 
  11. Creates visual data sets to document and communicate organizational outcomes and impact. 
  12. Management of others as needed to accomplish goals.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5 plus years serving as the SACSCOC Institutional Liaison for a university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees
  • Experience successfully implementing guidance from SACSCOC, NC-SARA and other higher education regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience producing successful organizational outcomes.
  • Graduate degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience using institutional data to inform organizational performance improvement and outcomes.

  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and expectations of SACSCOC, NC-SARA, and other higher education regulatory and compliance organizations.
  • Knowledge of program-specific accreditation processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of data presentation options to make meaningful information from complex data sets.
  • Skill in excellent communication, both oral and in writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in problem-solving techniques and conflict resolution skills.
  • Skill in strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Skill in critical thinking demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate positive outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and carry responsibility for university assessment and accreditation processes.
  • Ability to communicate and write clear, concise reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple, intermittent, on-going, and complex projects to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Ability to use computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and file management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a university environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, educational levels, and academic disciplines.
  • Ability to handle complex situations, particularly those which require a high level of confidentiality.

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information.
  • Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting.
  • Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

  • Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
