JOB SUMMARY

The School of Business Office of Diversity & Initiatives (ODI) is seeking a full-time Associate Director (Student Services Program Administrator). The Associate Director will be responsible for managing programs for the School of Business Office of Diversity Initiatives (ODI). The incumbent will supervise and train staff, advise students, and develop, implement, and coordinate diversity-related programming for high school students, college students, staff and faculty. This position will be based in Storrs but will require regular travel to other university campuses and other in-state and out-of-state travel. Evenings and weekends will also be required in support of program activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing administrative and technical programming for faculty, staff, and students. Resolving day-to-day administrative and logistical problems.
  • Developing, managing, planning and implementing new and existing outreach programs, conferences, meetings, workshops, presentations, seminars, and training at UConn campuses and other locations within Connecticut.
  • Establishing, maintaining and managing new and existing relationships with corporations, high schools, community colleges and others in an effort to expand diversity recruitment and programming.
  • Seeking grant opportunities and preparing proposals for grants; responding to requests for proposals from the development office to expand the breadth of programming, scholarships and internships available to students.
  • Counseling and advising students on academic plans, career opportunities and personal/professional growth.
  • Assisting with preparing the budget and monitoring spending against an approved budget.
  • Managing the recruitment of high school students or participants into assigned program. Developing and implementing recruiting and promotional strategies and working with target population to develop applicant pool consistent with program goals and objectives.
  • Conducting project evaluation and data collection needed for project performance reports. Preparing surveys and uses data to compile program and student data. Preparing reports as needed to aid in evaluating student progress and program effectiveness.
  • Managing general office operations and overseeing the processing and maintenance of necessary paperwork and records.
  • Representing ODI at regional and national conferences.
  • Responding to inquiries from program participants, students, faculty, and others and explains program policies, procedures, and requirements, making referrals as appropriate.
  • Serving as a resource to the School and/or University on diversity, inclusion and equity best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Five years of related work experience. One year of experience must be serving as an advanced team member.
  • Knowledge of best practices for supporting the retention and graduation of first-generation, low-income populations from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated work experience with data management, collection, reporting and presentation.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, including experience independently identifying, analyzing and resolving day-to-day program problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, planning and executing small and large events.
  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, administrators as well as external agencies/groups and the public.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising professional, temporary or student employees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Dependable transportation and ability to travel in-state and out-of-state as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with external corporate partners in coordinating college access, recruitment and retention programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in supporting academic success for students from underserved populations and students on scholastic probation.
  • Recent experience working in a higher education environment in a university setting.
  • Experience advising diverse student populations at a college or university.
  • Experience teaching and/or providing instruction to various audiences.
