Brief Description of Duties
The Department of Psychology invites applicants for a pool of lecturers to teach courses, should the need arise, during the fall or spring semesters. We are seeking instructors with demonstrated or potential for teaching excellence. Lecturers are expected to work with the Department Chair to ensure their course instruction and materials conform to university and department policies and practices, including holding office hours and participating in performance reviews.
The number of open positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department and available funding. The fall semester runs from late-August through mid-December. The spring semester runs from mid/late-January through mid/late-May.
Positions that become open will generally be for undergraduate classes, although on occasion those for graduate-level instruction may become available. The department offers a broad array of courses that can be found in our course catalog. Instructional needs vary from semester to semester, but areas in which the department most frequently has openings include the following:
- Writing Workshop (PSYC 100W)

- Research Methods (PSYC 18, 118, 120, 121A - E)
Candidates must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advising.
All Faculty should be organizing their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in the Canvas platform to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space, as all students are directed to log in to Canvas for online access to their classes. You will have access to this system prior to the semester start date.
