The Department of Medical Laboratory Science in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a full-time Professional Technician starting June 1, 2021. We seek a colleague to work with faculty to set up and maintain teaching laboratories, stockrooms, and instruments, assist students and faculty in projects and research, and perform other duties as assigned by the department chair. The Professional Technician will also provide guidance to faculty in the planning of new laboratory preparations and follow the University’s best practices to build and/or support student academic success and retention.

Primary responsibilities include preparation of laboratory classes and maintenance of inventory, prep rooms and instruments, reinforcement safety procedures and appropriate use of equipment by faculty and students, management of chemical and biologic waste, assist faculty and staff in projects and research.

Required qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required. Certification at the MLT(ASCP)CM level required at minimum or other national professional certification recognized by the department. Previous hands-on experience with the operation and maintenance of laboratory facilities. The ability to lift moderate weight (40 lbs.) from the floor to laboratory benches is required.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field, MLS(ASCP)CM or other national professional certification recognized by the department, and experience in training students/faculty in laboratory procedures, equipment operation and maintenance in a higher education academic setting, are preferred. Three or more years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role, experience working with medical laboratory scientists and technicians, and representatives of equipment vendors and manufacturers to obtain equipment, supplies, and support, is also preferred.
