Position Highlights:

The College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) is seeking a candidate for a career-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Applied Computing and Computer Science. The new faculty will teach undergraduate courses in Applied Computing and Computer Science. We seek a candidate who can demonstrate outstanding teaching methods as well as the ability to develop and teach courses in a variety of formats (e.g., online, interactive video). The desired teaching areas include the following: Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Web and Mobile Application Development, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Networking and Security, and Development Operations (DevOps). CAST is seeking a candidate who will demonstrate outstanding curricula development and instruction consistent with the college's purpose, vision, and values. The Assistant Professor of Practice, Applied Computing will contribute to building a strong team of culturally diverse faculty and staff who are committed to preparing traditional, post-traditional, and transfer students for success in a 21st-century workforce.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a workload typical for career track faculty at CAST defined as 80% related to teaching and 20% related to service
  • Teach undergraduate courses at multiple sites using a variety of formats, including on-line and interactive video platforms
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across disciplinary lines
  • Contribute to the service responsibilities of CAST and the University of Arizona, in part through participation on committees and student mentoring, including those from underrepresented backgrounds
  • Contribute to CAST and the University of Arizona’s development through appropriate outreach to local communities (including governmental units, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and area residents)
  • Assist in the development of innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners
  • Develop/prepare course syllabi, assignments, and activities for course delivery
  • Prepare and deliver course lectures/workshops
  • Critique and grade student assignments and examinations
  • Maintain regular in-person or virtual office hours and/or be available to students by appointment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Applied Computing, Information Technology, or closely related fields
  • Experience in distance learning
  • Relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph. D. in Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated professional experience in innovative teaching methods, specifically in distance modalities
  • Demonstrated professional experience in undergraduate research and applied learning
