Job Summary: The IT Technical Specialist IV performs advanced IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Requires a great amount of evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May be responsible for training, assisting or supervising lower level IT personnel and other staff. May lead projects and cross-functional activities.

Additional Department Summary: Under minimal supervision, designs, develops and supports complex software systems to support the administrative function of the university; installs, customizes, and supports vendor-supplied software systems; analyzes and resolves problems arising with the use of software systems.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and one (1) year of IT experience; OR Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of IT experience; OR Associate’s degree and five (5) years of IT experience; OR High School Diploma or GED and seven (7) years of IT experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional or security technology skills or knowledge of project management methods and applications. May require advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Three years experience in development and maintenance of software applications, computer science, computer engineering, relational database management systems, computer programming, web development, system administration, or network administration experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. Effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with university administrative computing applications, including web-based applications. Knowledge of HTML /XML/JSON and experience with Argos and/or Crystal Reports. Either programming or DBA related experience with MS SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL. Some experience with Java application programming. Basic working knowledge of and some experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
