Assistant Professor in 3D Foundations and Expanded Practices 

The Department of Visual Arts at Coastal Carolina University, accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design), is seeking applications for a full-time position at the level of Assistant Professor in 3D foundations and expanded practices to begin August 2021.

All candidates are expected to contribute to the diversity of our curriculum and community. Priority will be given to candidates well versed in contemporary techniques and concepts related to expanded practices such as casting, persona, performance, ethnicity, environment, identity, and/or installation. The successful candidate will have a strong, active exhibition record, an intricate knowledge of contemporary sculpture, and the ability to speak to contemporary practices across genres. Candidates should also have a strong background in 3D foundations in order to teach such classes within our foundations curriculum.

The Visual Arts Department in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University seeks to recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars whose creative production, teaching, and community engagement intersects with or focuses on the culture, history, and artistic expression of the African Diaspora Community in the United States. We seek teacher-scholars who will serve as mentors for our diverse student body and who have a demonstrated commitment to underrepresented and underserved communities as well as the academic success of all our students.

While the academic home for the candidates will be in the Department of Visual Arts, we are especially interested in hiring new faculty members who pursue their own scholarship within the interdisciplinary framework of African Diaspora Studies. We seek candidates who can be appointed as Affiliate Faculty in our Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies and who will contribute to the growth of such programs as the existing Minor in African and African Diaspora Studies and to future academic programs in Africana Studies, African American fine and performing arts, advocacy, and leadership.

The Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, Art Studio, and Graphic Design and the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Art and Visual Communication Design as well as a number of minors. This highly collaborative and active department encourages close-knit classroom experiences and promotes experiential learning that highlights faculty areas of expertise and research.
