Overview

The Center for the Study of Religion (CSR) Manager works closely with the Center director and associate director to execute policy and strategic direction for the operation of the Center and participates in short and long-term planning for Center operations and activities. While the director and assistant director establish the academic and intellectual direction of CSR, the manager will provide leadership for implementation of the director’s vision. The manager reports directly to the Center director, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Religion department manager.

The manager ensures the smooth and effective administrative operations of the Center, including development and monitoring the operating, endowment and sponsored research budgets and expenditures, and oversight for all building operations and renovations. The manager must be able to represent the Center and the director, serving as a liaison internally and externally. The manager ensures that all internal deadlines are met and the Center is compliant with all internal guidelines and external regulations. The manager is responsible for ensuring that the graduate and undergraduate fellows, and visiting scholars in the Center have the necessary assistance to carry out their academic, research and administrative duties. The manager is responsible for attending all relevant training classes offered by the University pertaining to these duties.



Responsibilities

Budget and financial management:

  • Develops the administrative budget for the Center under the broad direction of the director;
  • Oversees and directs the administrative and financial affairs of the Center and is responsible for careful and appropriate management of the administrative allowance, endowed and restricted funds, and grants or sponsored research; additional grant related activities include developing budgets for grant applications and post-award grant management, including submission of progress reports, financial reports, and annual effort certification;
  • Provides regular and timely analysis and projections of the available funds to the director;
  • Coordinates the financial arrangements of up to two dozen graduate student fellows and up to six visiting scholars each year.

Administrative management:

  • Supervises the administration of the scholars connected with the Center, arranging their appointments with the Dean of Faculty’s office according to University policy;
  • Responsible for administering the new certificate program, including monitoring students’ successful progress through the program;
  • Facilitates courses funded by CSR including interface with the Freshman Seminar program and/or Dean of the College and arrangements for faculty summer salaries as applicable;
  • Organizes the Center’s Executive Committee meetings, including preparing and distributing agendas and minutes. The manager supervises the hiring and time collection of occasional hourly workers;
  • Responsible for facilities management, including office moves, maintenance, renovations and repairs, and preparing and maintaining the continuity of operations plan;
  • Coordinates with the Center director and associate director to organize and execute programming, events, and special projects. This includes planning for visitors to campus, including travel and lodging arrangements, honorarium payment, and visas as necessary.
Communication:

  • Handles internal University communications such as advertising the availability of course and event funding to faculty and research funding to graduate students and undergraduate students;
  • Takes an active role in maintaining and updating the newly redesigned Center website and integrated social media presence;
  • In collaboration with the associate director, prepares promotional materials such as the Annual Report and Alumni Newsletter. Maintain the extensive email lists;
  • Oversees an ongoing project of video editing and production training for public facing scholarship to be featured on its website.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience, preferably in a administrative management position in a higher education setting or similar nonprofit organization.
  • Ability to interact and function in a cross-disciplinary academic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with budget management.
  • Flexible, adaptive to changing needs; prioritizes tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately with good attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment; creativity and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well alone and/or with others.
  • Commitment to cultivating a culture of respect and collegiality.
  • The ability to collaborate, listen well and to take the lead in problem-solving and consensus-building.
  • Experience with editing and maintaining websites.
  • Superior computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office programs Outlook, Excel, and Word.

Preferred:

  • Experience with audio visual production is a plus.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience at Princeton University preferred, including knowledge of Princeton financial policies and procedures and experience with Princeton systems such as PRIME, the Information Warehouse, Labor Accounting, Princeton ERA, PeopleSoft, the Student Activities Funding Engine, and Concur.
