The part-time instructor and clinical faculty is a 10-month, 70% fte appointment in the College's Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership. This position is non-tenure track and is not benefits eligible. The appointment begins August 1, 2021 and will end May 30, 2022.

As clinical faculty, you will engage in high-level problem-solving, relationship development and maintenance with local K-12 educational settings. Clinical faculty will provide high quality mentorship to teacher candidates during their practicum in our studio schools, as assigned by the Director of Clinical Experience.

The successful applicant will be a self-starter who requires little supervision and enjoys collaborating with others to build a successful, high-quality educator preparation program. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, will complement strong organizational capacities. This part-time position will be attractive to an experienced, knowledgeable educator- leader who is interested in being a member of an innovative team of educators.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain continual and professional relationships with personnel at Studio School partner sites and districts.
  • Teach practicum courses, consisting of supervising teacher candidates in their Practicum 1 and Practicum 2.
  • Teach course(s) for the Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Clinical Experience on academic and procedural matters, and attend other meetings as required, including monthly clinical educator meetings.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Experience and faculty, actively participate and lead sessions as needed in each Grand Seminar.
  • Mentor teacher candidates’ professional development and provide timely feedback both in person and electronically.
  • Demonstrate effective use of Canvas and MyCOE.
  • Demonstrate successful teaching, including face-to-face and online.
  • Deliver site-based collaborative exchanges to teacher candidates, as required.
  • Complete the MEES (Missouri Educator Evaluation System) evaluation forms, as required for candidates’ state certification, and ensure the clinical teachers complete theirs.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field with teacher certification.
  • Preferred areas of certification and experience: Elementary Education, Special Education and Literacy, physical education, ELL or Secondary Education Content (e.g. English, social studies, mathematics, science)
  • Successful full-time school teaching experience for a minimum of 5 years, including teaching in PK-12 grades.
  • Demonstrated successful teacher leader or administration experience in a PK-12 setting and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with a variety of professionals;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written, oral, technological).
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and problem-solving.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree
  • National Board Certified Teacher
  • Local knowledge of schools and educational agencies


Expectations: The successful applicant will be expected to perform these duties in a professional manner and to abide by the Collected Rules and Regulations of the University Systems. The holder of this position will report to the chair of the Department of Educator Preparation and will be reviewed on teaching and service annually by the department chair. The holder of this position will work from a remote office, with the primary amount of working time being in schools with teacher candidates.
