About the Department:

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) is one of four departments in the College of Health Sciences; and the Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) program is one of four undergraduate programs in the department. Both the undergraduate and MS in Dietetics program are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The FSN programs are housed in a newly remodeled food lab, a nutrition assessment center with two counselling rooms, and a new state of the art demonstration kitchen. Additionally, two new nutrition bench labs are under construction for use beginning Fall 2021 semester. The department seeks to recruit and retain a diverse faculty. Usual Duties:

The Department invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor, teaching nutrition courses and serving as the Dietetic Internship (DI) Director. This is a 9-month academic appointment, with 3-month summer administrative duties and teaching. The primary responsibilities of the DI Director is administration of the MS in Nutrition and Dietetic Internship Program, developing and maintaining clinical rotation sites, and supervising dietetic interns.

The DI Director is responsible for program activities that integrate with the mission, vision and overall operations of the department and college. The DI Director, in cooperation with the Didactic Program Director, assures the program meets accreditation standards and procedures established by ACEND.

Time allocation for this position is 75/25, with 75% allotted to teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and service; and 25% to managing the DI position which includes the responsibilities, as determined by ACEND, and the needs of the DI/FSN program.

The DI Director carries full-time teaching responsibilities in the FSN Program (eight courses per academic year). The selected individual will be an active member of the faculty, taking part in departmental, college, and university meetings and committees, while performing tasks as required of a full-time faculty member. This individual will be active in academic and professional associations and maintain continuing education to support proficiency in teaching content areas.

Educational Requirements for the Position:

A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in appropriate discipline is required

Experience Required for the Position:

A minimum of three years of professional experience as a practicing dietitian with supervisory experience is required. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred.

Other Requirements for the Position:

Applicants must be a Registered Dietitian with active registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, hold and maintain credentials, and can become a Licensed Dietitian in the state of Texas. Candidates will demonstrate effective communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively and collegially with faculty and student body are essential.
