Job Description:

This Biological Scientist position will condutct research related to gene expression regulation at the step of mRNA translation in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. In the first year, this position will support the Principla Investigator in setting up an efficient laboratory arrangement and establishing molecular and cell biology experiments while learning techniques. Using these set up, this position will design and perform experiments and contribute to solving important questions and problems.

Duties include:

  • Assist the P.I. in the design, setting up, and perform laboratory experiments.
  • Data management, analysis, and technical review of data. Organize results for lab notebook, presentation at research meetings, and publication in scientific journals. Independently troubleshoots problems.
  • Establish laboratory protocol. Provide technical assistance to other lab members.
  • Maintenance of inventory, hazardous waste and biological safety requirements, routine record keeping
  • Set up general laboratory system and maintenance: includes ordering of stock solutions such as cell culture media, common buffers, and key regents.
  • Training new laboratory members for the laboratory role including waste and safety roles.
  • Any other duties, as needed, to fulfill the mission and to abide by the values of the College of Medicine.

Expected Salary:

$16 - $17 per hour base on education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in biology. Must have good communication skills and be able to interact well with members of the laboratory. Good record keeping and meticulous attention to detail are required. Any research experience and knowledge will be plus especially, Biochemistry, molecular Biology, Cell biology, developmental biology, and neurology.
