Job Description:

The Business Administration department at Mills College is pleased to announce an opportunity for an instructor to teach three 3-credit accounting courses during the Fall 2021 semester. Our business degree programs are distinguished by their focus on equity and justice, by the rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences our students bring, and by our small size which fosters a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff.

The person in this position would teach the following two courses:
MGMT 073/214 Financial Accounting. Elementary accounting theory, with emphasis on the preparation and interpretation of financial statements.

Financial Accounting is a required course for undergraduate Business Administration majors and for students in all graduate business programs. This course is scheduled for Monday evenings from 7:00-9:30pm.

MGMT 115/215 Managerial Accounting. This course describes and analyzes the tools available for measurement, control, and planning of business firms. Emphasis will be on the accounting of costs in business.

Managerial Accounting is required for MBA students as well as students in our joint MPP/MBA and MBA/MA in Educational Leadership programs. It is an elective for graduate and undergraduate students in other degree programs. This course is scheduled for Monday afternoons from 1:00-3:30 pm.

We also have an opening for a third course which this person could teach if interested and qualified:

MGMT 180B/267 Financial Statement Analysis. This course integrates concepts and principles learned in financial accounting in the analysis of the four basic financial statements: the balance sheet, statement of operations, cash flow and equity statements. Our fundamental examination includes trend and ratio analysis, reformulation of the balance sheet and statement of operations, and an in-depth understanding of cash flow. We will use real world financial statements to assess an organization's liquidity, solvency and management's effectiveness in utilizing financial resources.

Financial Statement Analysis is required for graduate business students seeking a Finance concentration and is an elective for students in all other graduate and undergraduate programs. This course is scheduled for Thursday afternoons from 4:00-6:30pm.

All three courses are expected to be delivered in person or in a hybrid format. Remote learning options such as streaming in-person classes will be made available for students who need them. All in-person course experiences will end at the Thanksgiving Break. The remainder of the semester will be conducted remotely. The fall semester begins on August 25 and final exams end on December 15.

Compensation:
For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,500 per course with a terminal degree and $6,000 per course without a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.

Requirements:

Minimum qualifications are a Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Doctorate and higher education teaching experience are preferred.

Additional Information:

This is an exempt, part-time position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
