Work Schedule:

The typical work week is Monday through Friday 8am-5pm (9am-6pm) but may be adjusted according to the needs of the department. The position requires Sunday hours on a rotating basis. Position will typically work 40 hours per/week, however based on duties of position, individual may be called to assist with campus and individual crisis during evenings and weekends and during peak periods of high patient volume.

Advertised Job Summary:

Conducts patient triage and evaluation within approved guidelines and scope of practice. Assists nurse(s), physician(s) and other providers in patient examinations, treatments, procedures, preparing exam rooms between patients and care for patients in the Primary Care department. Perform dressing changes, nebulizer treatments and ear irrigation. Administers medications and injections as ordered. Obtains patient data such as vital signs, health history, chief complaint, routine medications, drug and other noted allergies. Operates and maintains tabletop sterilizer and runs biological indicator test to ensure quality sterilization process of medical instruments. Maintains appropriate inventory of medical supplies. Makes and follows up on patient appointments. Provides administrative support for patients checking in and out and procedures to determine eligibility for service, fees and community resources. Participates in Quality Assurance initiatives in regards to patient care. Serves on Student Health Services committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Graduation from accredited training program and 1 year experience, or high school diploma and 3 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified or Registered Medical Assistant with 3 years’ experience. Experience working within a care team environment and with electronic medical record systems. Knowledge of HIPPA (confidentiality) guidelines for patient information and records.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to triage patients and administer medications and injections according to physician orders. Ability to perform dressing changes, nebulizer treatments and ear irrigation. Knowledge of sterilization of instruments and biological testing. Ability to exercise initiative and make independent decisions. Ability to follow standard clinical procedures according to established policies and procedures. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards. Ability to communicate effectively through interpersonal skills with patients, medical providers, colleagues and visitors. Knowledge of electronic medical records and appointment systems. Ability to pay attention to detail, maintain high levels of concentration, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Knowledge of community health resources. Knowledge of computers, word processing and utilization of fax and copier machines.
