Research Instructor

The Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering within the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at UC Denver has an opening for a full-time Research Instructor in assistive technology and Human Factors.

The Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE) envisions a world where all persons with disabilities and, those aging into disability, are engaged in life at home, school, work and play, without barriers and without boundaries through appropriate technology solutions. 

The mission of the CIDE is to accelerate applied transdisciplinary technology research and innovation for persons with disabilities and those aging into disability. This includes collaboration with local, state, national and international stakeholders including industry, government, researchers, developers, end-users and their families. The center warmly welcomes actively engaged collaborators, including students, staff, faculty, external partners and the public.

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Research
  2. Collect data and actively participate in assigned research protocols.
  3. Analyze data and report outcome information
  4. Conduct  product testing/user experience/usability testing on targeted products for individuals, conduct usability and feasibility tests as required by grants and contracts.
  5. Complete and publish reports for consumer and manufacturer audiences as well as industry partners on the accessibility and usability of AT products.
  • Manage department resources
  • Serve as an active participant and team member in day-to-day activities of the department; Assist in industry services budgeting, development and marketing to expand capabilities of CIDE to meet the needs of the market.
  • Customer and Client Relations
  • Work with Director of CIDE and Industry Services Coordinator to develop and sustain industry partnerships and ongoing business development activities.
  • Work with Industry Services Coordinator to develop and execute strategic planning.
  • Support students interested in participating in human factors research.  Develop mentoring activities with students.
  • Student Support
  • Support BIOE MS and undergraduate research students as directed by CIDE Director.
  • Mentor students engaged in  AT and Human Factors related coursework as offered
  • Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range for this position has been established at $58,000-$68,000

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.     Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

      Bachelor or Masters of Science in a related  field such as Biomedical Engineering, Human Factors.
    • Minimum of 5 years research, industry or academic experience
    Desired Qualifications:

    • Applicants with a strong background in human factors, aging into disability, disability, assistive or medical technology preferred.
    • Ability to work independently along with excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills. Prior experiences should include research and clinical experience with assistive technology devices and services.  
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
