Position Highlights:

The Senior Director, Communications/Digital Content and Media Relations in the Office of Communications at the University of Arizona Health Sciences is responsible for helping plan and execute an external communications strategy that engages target audiences with exceptional stories that advance the UArizona Health Sciences brand and strategic initiatives.Reporting to the Executive Director, Brand Communications, the Senior Director is responsible for executing and overseeing the writing, editing, production, scheduling and pitching of strategic content, including news releases and content marketing features, that promote the Health Sciences brand, initiatives and accomplishments. The Senior Director manages a team of content creators and media relations specialists, and works collaboratively with social media, video, creative services and other Office of Communications team members to produce a steady flow of aligned, high-quality multimedia stories for earned, owned and social media platforms.This position serves as a liaison to UArizona Health Sciences colleges, departments and centers, and collaborates with communicators in those areas to develop news and feature coverage about faculty research, student success, special achievements and select events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct development and execution of a consistent flow of features and news stories that emphasize UArizona Health Sciences’ strategic initiatives and differentiate UArizona Health Sciences from peer institutions.
  • Maintain content calendar and proactively identify opportunities for strategic and general content development through regular engagement with key faculty and staff across the Health Sciences.
  • Work closely with social media, video, creative services and other communications team members to develop aligned multimedia stories that promote the mission and activities of UArizona Health Sciences and deliver a value proposition to targeted audiences.
  • Develop strong working relationships with local, regional, national and international media, and proactively pitch news and feature story ideas to the media.
  • Help define, establish and align key performance indicators within broader department and institution goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Experience managing communications/content development staff in a higher education environment.*Strong news and editing experience, creative instincts and hands-on expertise in developing written content.*Ability to meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing competing priorities.*Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.*Success in cross-functional leadership, building strong relationships and partnering with internal colleagues.*Experience in decision-making concerning complex or sensitive news content. *A record of personal and professional integrity with a work style that promotes creativity, teamwork and strategic thinking.*An unwavering commitment to making the University of Arizona Health Sciences a diverse and inclusive community.Competencies*Communicates direction from leadership and articulates impact on staff work objectives.*Sometimes requires ability to influence others outside of own job area on policies, practices and procedures.
