Department Description:The Craniofacial and Surgical Sciences Unit is a newly-formed, multi-disciplinary academic unit within the Adams School of Dentistry consisting Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), Craniofacial Center, Hospital Dentistry, and Orthodontics.

Position Description:The Financial Counselor is responsible for managing the financial care of all Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Dental Faculty Practice patients. This role will provide financial counseling to patients and review all options available for financing their surgery, which will include obtaining prior approval for all procedures with in-network and out-of-network managed care insurance carriers, and Medicaid. This position requires a solid understanding of medical and dental insurance and the complexities associated with reimbursements, prior approvals, and credentialing of faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Work performed by the incumbent impacts every area of the revenue cycle within OMFS/DFP, as well as outside providers, therefore the following skills are essential to performing the required tasks of this position:
• Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy is critical since many other areas are depending on the work performed in this position
• Strong ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks in a timely and independent manner
• Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the following:
• ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases)
• CPT (Current Procedural Terminology)
• CDT (Current Dental Terminology)
• HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
Familiarity with policies and procedures mandated by the NC Insurance Commission.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
