Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Nursing (Two Positions Available)
The University of Texas Permian Basin is seeking applicants for our two Open Rank Faculty of Nursing positions.
Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance.
School of Nursing Faculty are responsible for teaching primarily in the didactic, clinical, and/or laboratory settings, incorporating evidence-based practice into teaching activities, and maintaining a commitment to serving the students, the School of Nursing (SON), the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance, and the University. Applicants must have completed the SON requirements for faculty teaching in the clinical and didactic setting, and any additional compliance requirements of the institutions where clinical education is assigned, including but not limited to a background check, documentation of vaccinations and titers, and required training. Starting salary depends on years of demonstrated teaching experience, degree, and the Dean’s evaluation.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
1. Responsible for teaching in the clinical, lab, and classroom settings, including virtual and live simulation approaches to education in the pre-licensure and post-licensure programs
2. Maintain current clinical competency and knowledge of current evidence in the literature required to teach in the clinical, lab, and classroom settings.
3. Teach a variety of classes under the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance policies while actively seeking ways to improve instruction through evaluations of student learning outcomes and professional feedback
4. Continue to update and revise course content and teaching methodology to maintain currency and relevance.
5. Collaborate and/or provide assistance to associate faculty regarding course content and instructional materials.
6. Works closely with Curriculum Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, and Department Chair when a student’s academic performance places them at risk for failure.
7. Provides students with a recommended plan for academic improvement as needed and follows up to determine if student performance improves.
8. Provides timely feedback to students on their clinical/lab/course progress.
9. Participates in relevant Progression Committee meetings for students who have not achieved academic success in the course.
10. Communicates in writing with the student, Course Lead (if applicable), Clinical Coordinator (if appropriate), Department Chair, student’s academic advisor, and Student Success Center if the student is not passing at midterm and/or at the end of the course.
11. Participates in preparation for, and activities during, the academic program accreditation.
12. Adheres to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) that protects student educational records’ privacy.
1. Post and observe office hours for purposes of academic advising and student consultation. Hold office hours at times that are most convenient for students.
2. Meet with students as needed by appointment.
3. Advise and assist students during the ongoing registration process. Maintain knowledge of degree requirements, programs, and course transfer information.
4. Meet with Advisees at least once per semester and document in writing program feedback.
5. Prepare degree checks and assist students in preparing for graduation.
6. Advocate for students as necessary in didactic, clinical, and future professional settings. (i.e., referral to ADA office, writing letters of reference/recommendation, discuss internships based on students’ specialty interests)
1. Participates in all open houses, special student days, orientation, degree completion ceremonies, and graduations unless excused by the Dean
2. Serves on and actively participates in School of Nursing, College of Health Science and Human Performance, and University committees as assigned
3. Participates in professional activities such as being a member of a professional organization associated with the appropriate clinical practice specialty.
4. Actively participate and attend department, division, and university-wide meetings.
5. Actively participate in assisting the University in maintaining standards required for accreditation.
6. Participate in full regalia in official graduation ceremonies and other official functions as requested by the Dean.
7. Perform other duties as determined in consultation with the Dean and/or Provost.
8. Participate in high impact student success activities, such as learning communities, student workshops, study sessions, and study hall.
1. Participate in scholarly and/or creative activities that provide a meaningful contribution to the science of nursing and/or education
2. Participate in internal and external grant writing, data collection, and management as assigned by the Dean.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. If hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.

1. A doctorate or a master’s degree in nursing education, or a master’s degree in nursing with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline preferred.
2. Unencumbered license to practice nursing in TX or another compact state required (or eligible for licensure.)
3. At least five years of clinical practice experience
4. This role requires demonstrated knowledge, competence, and experience in a specialty area of practice as a direct care provider and nurse educator.
5. The role also requires excellent organizational, written, and oral interpersonal communication skills.
6. Possesses advanced collaboration and communication skills.
7. The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
