The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Jackson Center Ethics Fellowship. The position is renewable up to three years. Appointment is effective August 16, 2021.

The Center seeks a scholar with an active research and teaching agenda (AOS) in ethics or political philosophy in the early stages of their career. AOS: desired further areas of research and/or teaching competency include the philosophy of race and gender, Africana/African-American studies, feminist philosophy, social justice, human rights, etc. The candidate’s research should be of interest to the wider campus community and The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values (

Responsibilities include teaching six courses a year (including at least one upper division ethics course), contributing to the intellectual life of the community, and participating in the work of the Jackson Center. The ethics fellow is expected to be a mentor to the Jackson Scholar students, who are part of the leadership program of the Center.

The Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University seeks to recruit and retain a diverse community of scholars whose research, teaching, and community engagement focus on the culture, history, and artistic expression of the African Diaspora Community in the United States. We seek teacher-scholars who will serve as mentors for our diverse student body and who have a demonstrated commitment to underrepresented and underserved communities as well as the academic success of all our students. Priority for this position will be given to applicants who can contribute teaching, curriculum development, and research in the areas of competency listed above.

While the academic home for the candidate will be in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, we are especially interested in hiring new faculty members who pursue their own scholarship within the interdisciplinary framework of African Diaspora Studies. We seek candidates who can be appointed as Affiliate Faculty in our Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies and who will contribute to the growth of such programs as the existing Minor in African and African Diaspora Studies and to future academic programs in Africana Studies, African American fine and performing arts, advocacy, and leadership.

Required Qualifications:
