Veteran Services Program Manager

The Office of Student Life is currently seeking applicants for a Veteran Services Program Manager to supervise operation for the Office of Veterans Services. Required to travel as necessary, attend job related professional development conferences and stay abreast of development of services to student veteran populations. Must maintain strict confidentiality on all matters related to student’s record. Position is professional and requires use of sound judgement and decision-making. Considerable contact required with students, staff, faculty and administration.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience related to advising, working with veterans, career counseling, mentoring of students, supervision of subordinates, management and leadership experience in education is required. A Master’s degree and being an honorably discharged veteran of the armed forces with management and leadership experience are preferred.

Duties include, but are not limited to: provide the vision and direction for a full- service Veteran Services office that meets the needs of a diverse military-affiliated student population; serve as adviser and advocate to veterans and their family members who are students; ensure compliance with VA, Department of Education and other federal guidelines; supervise full-time employees and work study students; assist in the advisement of the Coastal Student Veterans Association (SVA) and any other student Veterans club or organization; develop, coordinate and evaluate educational programming about military-affiliated students in transition to the campus and local communities and raises awareness of or celebrates the military; serve as a point of contact for Veterans Services and serves as a VA certifying and school approval official; certify Chapter 35 Dependents Education Assistance, Chapter 1606 Selected Guard and Reserve GI Bill®, and Chapter 31 Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation; sponsor bills for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA), ROTC Scholarships, and Chapter 31 Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation; ensures that veteran and military-affiliated students are receiving timely information about their status and funding; assist students with pre-certifications academic eligibility ensure university compliance with section 702 of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014 and the DOD Tuition Assistance Program; develop and manage budget for the Office of Veteran Services office; work to develop additional sources of funding for the office and students; and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Knowledge of academic advising; ability to communicate with students and student accounts, financial aid, and academic departments. Proficiency with student information systems; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Mature, professional attitude; tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations; flexibility as team member with willingness to do everything to achieve division’s goals. Commitment to veteran student development and success. Knowledge of GI Bill requirements and US Department of VA Education Benefits desirable. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
