Posted Salary Range:$2,800.00 to $3,000.00 per 3 Credit hour Course
Department:School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences
Purpose of Job:Adjunct faculty members are scheduled to teach courses on an as needed basis in the sphere of expertise and for which he/she has achieved and established academic qualifications.
Scope of Responsibilities:The adjunct faculty member must demonstrate success in the classroom by developing and using highly effective teaching strategies that meet the needs of diverse students; that promote the acquisition and application of knowledge, development of critical and creative learning and problems solving skills. The adjunct instructor assignments vary from semester to semester, depending upon the instructional needs of the department.
Essential Job Functions :Demonstrate knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching adult students, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate and advise them;
Interact with students in an appropriate, professional manner;
Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and the attainment of the student learning outcomes for the course;
Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity, modeling respect and conveying confidence i n every student’s ability to learn;
Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, student performance data, attendance policies, textbook choices and assessments;
Attend classes regularly, maintain active syllabi, and return reports, credentials and other requested documents in a timely manner;
Maintain effective written and communication with chair or designee;
Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA and other regulatory legislations;
Participate in trainings/workshops that are mandated for instructors.
Commit to furthering the mission, goals and values of the department of Human Sciences and Alcorn State university;
Terminal degree or Master’s degree with 18 graduate credits in the relevant discipline (Public Health/Nutrition and Dietetics/ Food Science/Community Health Sciences/Culinary Arts/ Human Development/Family Science/ Child Development/Family and Consumer Sciences or a closely related field).
Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
Ability to work with a diverse staff, faculty and student population
Working knowledge of common learning management systems such as BANNER and CANVAS.
Proficiency with standard office applications on personal computers.
License or professional credential in relevant discipline (if applicable
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Communicate effectively with individuals and groups
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to work with departments across all levels of the University
Provide support for continuous process improvement of the academic programs and the department
Interact effectively with state and national leadership and organizations on behalf of the department
