Assistant Professor of Sociology/Criminology Status

Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology/Criminology, beginning August 2021.This position serves as the integrating bridge between our majors in Sociology and Criminal Justice in Society and will complement our departmental commitment to social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. DepartmentSociologyResponsibilities

Department faculty typically teach 3 courses (12 credits) per semester, fall and spring. In addition to teaching in their area of expertise, the candidate will teach a full range of criminology and sociology courses (e.g., introduction to criminal justice, introduction to sociology, race relations, and research methods). We also anticipate new course development in areas such as intersectionality and criminalization and environmental justice. Other duties include professional development in scholarly and creative activity, contributing to student mentoring and academic advising, service to the department and university and active participation in faculty governance.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold an earned doctorate from an accredited institution by August 2021 in Sociology with a specialty in Criminology or in Criminology with an emphasis in Critical Criminology. Candidates must demonstrate the ability teach criminology and race/intersectionality. Interest in teaching an environmental justice course is desirable. Submission materials should evidence a demonstrated commitment to engaging, innovative, and evidence-based teaching incorporating diverse instructional methods and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students.

Upon hire, final rank will be determined by the Provost commensurate with experience and education.
