Job Description Summary:

The Dean is the chief administrative officer for the College of Health and Pharmacy, overseeing the Schools of Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Pharmacy. The Dean reports to the Provost and is a member of the Deans’ Council and advisor to the Provost. The Dean serves as the public face and advocate for the quality and success of the College, and collaborates with fellow members of the Deans’ Council and other senior administrators to fulfill the mission and vision of the University.

The Dean is responsible for:
•Providing strategic leadership to the College of Health and Pharmacy to advance the work of the College.
•Identifying, understanding, and supporting the needs of each school with regard to admissions, marketing, progression, accreditation, and licensure.
•Overseeing instruction, scholarly activity, recruitment, supervision, and professional development of faculty and staff, budgetary planning and management, strategic planning, and fundraising and grant opportunities for the College.
•Seeking and facilitating opportunities to develop and expand exceptional educational programming in health and pharmacy.
•Developing and advancing community relationships that respond to, and positively impact, regional healthcare needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning:
•Establish a shared mission and vision for the College that aligns with the mission and goals of the University.
•Facilitate strategic planning at the College and School levels that are consistent with best practice and include the expectations of external stakeholders such as accreditors. Participate in faculty and institution-wide formal and informal activities which may require evenings and weekends.
•Serve as the public presence and voice of the College/School before the administration, trustees, and community and assist in development initiatives.
•Increase the College and School’s visibility in the academic and professional communities regionally, nationally and internationally.

Academic Administration:
•Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop academic policies and programs to foster high academic standards among faculty and students in accordance with University mission and policies. This includes:
ooversight of the College and School’s instructional programs
oleadership in curriculum improvement, innovation, and assessment of student learning and alignment with accreditation standards
•Participate on Deans’ Council and advises the Provost on personnel and academic matters within the College.
•Facilitate a climate of student support and success and ensure appropriate resources are provided
•Enhance a culture of diversity and community with faculty, staff and students.

Personnel:
•Ensure faculty members have the support and opportunity to fulfill their responsibilities to the University and their professions.
•Coordinate with the Provost with regard to hiring and other personnel matters.
•Assure that annual reviews of faculty and staff are conducted and that faculty development plans are relevant and achievable.
•Work with the faculty to develop their teaching scholarship at the University.

Budget and Facility Management:
•Facilitate interaction with admissions, financial aid, and marketing to foster a strategic approach to enrollment management.
•Plan and administer the budget for the College and Schools to assure effective allocation of resources.
•In coordination with the Assistant Deans and Chairs, oversee purchasing, leasing and tracking of equipment and assets.
•Assist in the development of plans for obtaining and allocated financial resources to meet facility and personnel needs.
•Support the College and School advancement and grant-seeking efforts.

•A strong background in a profession related to an area of study within the College and Schools;

•an understanding of professional education;
•a proven ability to attract external funding and support;

•demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with community organizations;
•and experience with the development and implementation of outcomes assessment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Education: Minimum of a Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution.

Experience: A minimum of five years’ administrative experience in academia. Direct supervisor experience and managerial leadership of multifaceted operations involving numerous professional, students and support personnel. Experience with accreditation and assessment oversight.

Individual office, conference room, and interactive classrooms with distance teaching equipment. Some travel may be required. Meeting held in various buildings across the campus. Need to move from building to building, campus to campus, and attend required meetings and conferences nationally and internationally as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
