ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST II/FINANCIAL ASSOCIATE III
ECOLOGY & EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Regular Full-ime, Pay Range MR06

The University of Tennessee, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Department- Knoxville, is accepting applications for an Accounting Specialist II.  This positon exists to assist Business Manager in all operations of the department related to fiscal issues, namely grant proposals, awards and development; account reporting, and personnel.  The position is co-supervised by the Department Head and the Business Manager.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Travel reservations, travel entry, travel reimbursements and recordkeeping using the university Concur travel system.  This requires knowledge of or ability/willingness to learn the Concur travel system.
  • Account reconciliation and analysis.  Using the university IRIS system, this position will perform or assist with most departmental financial transactions such as petty cash reimbursements, setup and payments to independent contractors, personnel changes, effort certification reporting, internal orders and ledger reconciliation
  • Serves as departmental IRIS reviewer. 
  • In conjunction with Business Manager occasionally assists with proposal preparations and grant tracking
  • Other duties as needed
 



Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
 

Education:          High School Diploma or some college.  Prefer Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:        High School Diploma with four years accounting or 2 years of college with 2 years accounting or Bachelor degree in accounting and 1 year of account;

Job Skills:            Ability to perform a variety of complex accounting transactions, budget development and analysis; ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments to meet requirements and facilitate workflow; strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills; ability to interpret government contracts and related regulations; proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and Word; ability to work with little direct supervision, detail-oriented; team player; quick learner; dependability and strong work ethics is a must.
