Position description

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding Archstone Endowed Chair in Geriatrics Healthcare

About Family Medicine/Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology. The division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology is home to faculty, fellows, and staff who have a passion for patient care, medical education, scholarship and community health. Our mission, as a department in the UCI School of Medicine is to Discover, Teach, Heal and Serve. We are committed to delivering exemplary clinical care, teaching health professionals and conducting scholarship.

Our division includes Family Medicine and Internal Medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, and psychologists, comprising a team based approach to Geriatric medicine, and well as a researchers and a dedicated staff. Geriatricians provide care in many environments including UCI Health’s SeniorHealth Center, affiliated skilled nursing facilities and in patients’ homes. The Division has been awarded major grants and donor funds to improve the health of seniors through education, innovative clinical care and to prevent and address neglect and abuse. We offer an outstanding Geriatric Fellowship with three fellows annually.

REQUIREMENTS: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution with appropriate clinical training and experience. Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine and board eligibility/board certification in Geriatric Medicine; excellent clinical skills; interest in clinical teaching; eligibility for UC Irvine Medical Center medical staff privileges required. Candidate must have demonstrated capabilities for teaching, professional services and/or research suitable to the HS Clinical Professor series.

PRACTICE INFORMATION: We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring geriatrician to join an interdisciplinary outpatient practice at the SeniorHealth Center at the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA. The academic clinician will join the clinician-educator faculty series and work with other Geriatricians as well as Advance Practice Providers, Psychologists, Pharmacists, and Social Workers. Our goal is to provide superb medical care for a diverse patient population. The outpatient practice is a teaching site for all levels of academic learners. Successful applicants will demonstrate an exemplary track-record of program development, teaching, and academic scholarship in geriatrics. We are seeking applicants recognized at national or international levels. A background in healthcare and experience teaching and working in a medical school or academic health setting is highly desirable. Applicants should be capable of leading and expanding current programs.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate innovative clinical programs to enhance care and access to care for Orange County’s seniors. Examples may include enhancing telehealth, care in the home, and interdisciplinary and interdepartmental programs which support an Age Friendly Health System.
• Collaborate with faculty in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Population Health to develop interdisciplinary education.
• Participate in local, national and international geriatric associations and organizations
• Ambulatory patient care practice
• Fellow supervision, residency teaching, and precepting medical students

The Archstone Chair in Geriatric Medicine is a new position which includes protected time for program development, along with responsibilities in clinical care and education.
