Provides personal and mental health counseling services to students and provides referrals to appropriate services and agencies. Leads initiatives to provide services to cultural minority and underserved student populations (students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, and international students). Provides consultation, leadership and support to faculty and staff around campus. Must be able and willing to work occasional evening and weekend hours. This position is housed on the Cedar Rapids campus and will spend the majority of work hours assisting students on the Cedar Rapids campus, but also will have regular hours on the Iowa City campus. Provide personal and mental health counseling to students as a generalist, while developing and providing culture-specific supports that meet the diverse needs of underserved student populations.Create and deliver educational outreach programs on topics including diversity, equity, and inclusion as they relate to mental health.Identify, outreach and develop relationships and programming for racial and ethnic populations that have historically underutilized mental health counseling.Assess and share input on how to enhance existing programming and services to align with culturally-competent values.Perform other related work duties as assigned.PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Provide outstanding customer service and serve as a positive representative of the department and the student services division with the goal of improving student learning and success.Demonstrate a knowledge of counseling theory and intervention strategies; culturally-sensitive therapeutic interventions; understanding of diverse experiences of trauma and corresponding culturally-appropriate therapies; interviewing and communications techniques; community college philosophy; Kirkwood programs, policies and procedures; community agencies, resources and referral procedures; issues in mental health, domestic violence, sexual harassment, abuse, substance abuse and conflict resolution.Strong oral and written communication skills.Possess a solid working knowledge of college student development, including the needs of diverse learners, and student services in general.Functional knowledge of the Colleague student database, Word, Excel, Power Point, Titanium, Zoom, and other commonly used computer programs.An ability to work efficiently, effectively, and independently in an environment with regular interruption.Collaborates with employees engaged in equity and inclusion work from other divisions of the college, to provide a coordinated effort toward reaching the college strategic plan’s key performance indicators related to equity and inclusion.Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.Work collaboratively with others in the department and across campus to address and support the college’s Key Performance Indicators.Candidate will be required to complete the Kirkwood Quality Faculty Development program.

Master’s degree in mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, clinical psychology or clinical social work, plus two years of work experience in counseling are required.Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills also required.A demonstrated ability to work as a member of team is also required. Basic computer skills in word processing, data base management, mainframe usage and Internet usage also required. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Iowa as a mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist, clinical social worker, or equivalent license in the mental health field.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
