Annual Salary Range for Director: $60,000 - 75,000 (Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred)
Annual Salary Range for Executive Director: $80,000 - 90,000 (Master's degree required, PhD preferred)

Position Purpose

The (Executive) Director of Institutional Research and Planning supervises all institutional research activities which provide information to support institutional planning, policy formulation, and decision making, directs and manages data collection, data analysis, and research activities relative to institutional research, facilitates the development process and assist in the preparation of grant applications and proposals, and directs the compilation of data and manages the submission of required state and federal reports regarding College activities. This position requires someone who is able to ask questions of people, processes, and data, in order to present new ideas and foster innovation for the College.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as the “single source of truth” for all College data requests. This includes internal reporting to administrators, as well as, external state, federal, grant, and accreditation reporting.
  • Maintain College data dictionary and departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintains reporting calendar to provide timely and accurate internal and external reporting to meet regulatory and compliance needs.
  • Provide data based recommendations for process improvements.
  • Use data visualization techniques to provide insight and invite engagement to support strategic planning and critical managerial decisions.
  • Respond to ad hoc issues concerning the College by researching issues and providing appropriate responses.
  • Work with Faculty, Program Managers, and other staff members in the development, submission, and post-award administration of institutional grant initiatives.
  • Identify and monitor prospective federal, state and other public and private contracts and grant opportunities that may be a source of funding for the College.
  • Represent the College in federal and state audits of government-funded grants.

  • Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
    • For EXECUTIVE Director, PhD preferred, Master’s degree required with 5 to 7 years' experience. For DIRECTOR level position, Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, in Higher Education, Statistics, or other related field.
    • Experience and expertise in data gathering and analysis, working with ERP/SIS, CRM, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. Knowledge in Microsoft SQL preferred.
    • Able to work with large and increasingly complex data sets. Able to supplement and link external archival data to enhance and supplement internal datasets (e.g., IPEDS data to collect characteristics of other institutions of higher education).
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills – quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods.
    • Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn quickly, ask thoughtful questions, and synthesize information.
    • Knowledge of and proven experience writing proposals to corporate, foundation and government sources, and an understanding of regulatory, technical and financial requirements for grants.
    • Demonstrated exceptional writing, research, project management skills.
