We value the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology Oncology Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant position. Nature of Work:- Laboratory-based translational research on the immunology of cancer.
- Conduct experiments; assist with project planning, data interpretation, contribute to publications and lab management.
- Perform experiments independently
- Perform experiments with other students, postdocs to contribute to publications and overall productivity of the group
- Maintain accurate and current laboratory notebook including all experimental details
- Write-up and present experiments in small group meetings
- Set up mouse matings
- Tag/tail/genotype progeny
- Address any problem issues with mouse colony
- Interact with animal facility staff
- Maintain on-line and printed records of animals in colony
- Order animals for lab members
- Use University system to order reagents and supplies as needed
- Maintain laboratory stocks and equipment and be responsible for coordinating repairs when needed
- Maintain lab records of stocks, help with lab clean-up events
- Supervise new trainees, rotation students, undergraduates in lab jobs and experimental endeavors
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Arts in Cell Biology or closely related field
- One to three years of related research experience
- Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
- Prior experience using GraphPad PRISMExperience using flowjo/kaluza flow cytometry analysis software
- Previous experience with mouse models, including performing tail vein injections, cloning, sacrifice, lymph node harvesting and plasmid preparation
- Prior experience with maintenance of mouse colonies and models
- Able to troubleshoot, design experiments, and collaborate amongst peers
- Excellent communication skills using the English language
- Ability to follow and maintain protocols when handling hazardous materials
