The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology Oncology Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant position. 

Nature of Work:

  • Laboratory-based translational research on the immunology of cancer.
  • Conduct experiments; assist with project planning, data interpretation, contribute to publications and lab management.

Position Emphasis:

Perform experiments to support research goals of the group 50%

  • Perform experiments independently
  • Perform experiments with other students, postdocs to contribute to publications and overall productivity of the group
  • Maintain accurate and current laboratory notebook including all experimental details
  • Write-up and present experiments in small group meetings
Maintain research mouse colony 30%

  • Set up mouse matings
  • Tag/tail/genotype progeny
  • Address any problem issues with mouse colony
  • Interact with animal facility staff
  • Maintain on-line and printed records of animals in colony
  • Order animals for lab members
Order reagents and equipment and maintain laboratory organization 20%

  • Use University system to order reagents and supplies as needed
  • Maintain laboratory stocks and equipment and be responsible for coordinating repairs when needed
  • Maintain lab records of stocks, help with lab clean-up events
  • Supervise new trainees, rotation students, undergraduates in lab jobs and experimental endeavors
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $40,000 to $50,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Arts in Cell Biology or closely related field
  • One to three years of related research experience
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior experience using GraphPad PRISMExperience using flowjo/kaluza flow cytometry analysis software
  • Previous experience with mouse models, including performing tail vein injections, cloning, sacrifice, lymph node harvesting and plasmid preparation
Competencies:

  • Prior experience with maintenance of mouse colonies and models
  • Able to troubleshoot, design experiments, and collaborate amongst peers
  • Excellent communication skills using the English language
  • Ability to follow and maintain protocols when handling hazardous materials
